I am a newby with the Transition Family and I am having some difficulty staying on track. I have made the commitment to exercise at least three times a week but find it hard to stick with the menu. I was recently told that my 9 year old daughter was 'at risk' for Diabetes and now more than ever I want to get on track and stay there. I know that this lifestyle system will benefit our entire family but I am really concerned for her. How do you make the transition to healthier foods, proper portions per setting and a good eating schedule permanent? Please send tips.

Been a long time since I've been on the site. I am making a new commitment to do the RIGHT thing. I just finished the Nutri clean program and had a successful week of Detoxing. I plan to start the school year off right. I've spoken to my daughter about making healthier choices and we are going to do this together. She is excited about the Transitionsrock.com coming out next year. I can't wait to see our results in a few week's time. Thanks for the support.

How are you doing? I hope you are still on track. It is not easy. I found it was best to get all the junk food stuff out of the house. Then to take the family to the store and have them pick the vegies they like and make sure you have plenty of the ones they like on hand and keep trying the ones they don\'t really like right now. Eventually there taste buds will change. They will learn to like them. Hope you are doing great. Keep up the good work.

I have found children to be the easiest of all to embrace the changes to healthy choices. They are full of color and flavor.A class is a great place to start or maybe a consultation with a coach to get you started in the right direction to clean out your cabinets. If you only have healthy choices in the house, guess what your family will eat? They won\'t starve and after the grumbling when they have energy and feel better they will thank you by making those choices when they are on their own. I went to school lunch with the first grader today and her choice was a baked potato and a salad. CTLC in Charlotte- Sharon Dunaway...Good Luck!

My problem is me. I started out strong but as usual I gave up. Beginning to accept that routine isn\'t helpful. Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I\'ll keep you posted.

Been off track for quite a while. Picking out veggies is easy, we do it all the time. Getting rid of the junk food, not so easy as we pack 6 lunches daily. Made up my mind to get back on track and I\'m looking for ways to pack a lunch that won\'t cause us to go backwards. Thanks for the encouragement.

Sounds like a really good idea. I just may be able to do that. My family and I eat pretty healthy foods so that part shouldn\'t be difficult at all. I definitely need to check the portions we\'re eating though, I just dip and go never really paying attention to how many times I dip. Thanks again for the encouragement.

I wish I had the strength to stick to it back then. I was doing well but fell off the wagon. Anyway thanks for the encouragement, I\'m looking to begin again--this time with a goal in mind that is obtainable and realistic for myself and my daughter.

A real key is strong desire.. You have got to want to make the change.\r\n\r\nYou need to identify where your problems are and proactively overcome them.\r\n\r\nI would suggest you get into a class setting for accountability... and also make sure you are journaling and watching DVDS.

sometimes just adding the salad before themeal is served and really loading up plates with veggies....for my family we now serve dinner "restaurant style" and I load the plates up....everyone tries a little of everything...even my semi-resistant hubby!

One thing that I\'ve done is bought smaller dinner plates. They look fuller and that really helps. I also have been preparing my meals so that each person in my family gets a portion, and I prepare each plates...I don\'t serve family style. So when they come to the table there serving is on there plate and there is none for seconds. If there is any extra it goes on my husbands plate (He\'s already thin). If they are still hungry I use carrot sticks & celery sticks and have them drink water. Usually the portion is enough and rarely do I need anything extra. I also encourage conversation during dinner so that everyone is eating more slowly. It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to tell you you\'re full, which is why many people overeat. I hope this is helpful.

I know how hard it is in the beginning, but once you stick with it long enough and have the support of people around you and that I believe is key you will have nothing but success. I believe a class setting to discuss your challenges so you have the support is your best defense and clean the house of all the bad stuff. If you don\'t do this for yourself, at least think of how you will be helping your daughter. I know the challenges in the beginning can be rough, I have two children myself, but you can get through it. Best of Luck.

My 14 yo daughter and I started the detox diet this week and I admit she is complaining alot. Lydia is right... you need to get all the high GI foods out of the house so there is no temptation. I just listen to my daughter\'s complaints and remind her "why" she wanted to do Transitions. I\'m spending my detox week looking for recipes so I can prove to her that she can eat food that tastes good without it being bad for her. I cook extra so there are always healthy leftovers to nibble on. You can also find activities to fill her time because people tend to eat when they\'re bored or because there\'s too many food commercials on the TV. We\'ve started doing puzzles and games after dinner in addition to our walk. I don\'t let her take any electronics on our walk so we can just enjoyng talking to each other!
